The Melbourne Athenaeum Library's annual Marcus Clarke Lecture was launched in 2015 as part of the library's 175th birthday celebrations. The lectures are designed to generate conversations and were named after Marcus Andrew Hislop Clarke, who made a vibrant contribution to the activities of the Athenaeum.
