Browse the Collection

The library has a wide range of ebooks and eaudiobooks available through OverDrive and the Libby app.

OverDrive is a quick and easy way to access ebooks. It's simple — just follow the link to the catalogue, login with your library card number and password, download and enjoy.

Read on your phone or tablet with the Libby App

  1. Download the Libby app to your device from the Apple Store or from Google Play
  2. Select 'Yes' to confirm you have a library membership
  3. Select 'I'll search for a library'
  4. Search for Melbourne Athenaeum
  5. Log in with your library card number and PIN
  6. Once you're logged in selecting the 'Borrow' option for a book will allow you to access it from any device with the Libby app installed and synced
  7. The book will now be available for reading from your shelf, accessed by clicking the pile of books icon at the bottom of the screen

Read an ebook in your web browser with OverDrive

  1. On your computer, go to the login page for the OverDrive website and login using your library card number and PIN
  2. Select and borrow an ebook
  3. Select 'read now in browser'

Download an ebook to your laptop or PC

  1. Install Adobe Digital Editions to your computer from the Adobe website
  2. Create an Adobe ID by filling in the Adobe account sign-up form
  3. Open Adobe Digital Editions and select 'Help, Authorize computer'
  4. Select 'Adobe ID' from the drop-down menu and enter your Adobe ID and password
  5. Now go to the login pafe for the collection on the OverDrive website and login using your library card number and PIN
  6. Follow the online prompts to download and open the ebook file

Transfer an ebook to an ereader

  1. Download an ebook to your computer following the 'Download an ebook to your laptop or PC' instructions
  2. Connect your ereader to the computer
  3. Once the device is properly connected the name will appear in Adobe Digital Editions
  4. In Adobe Digital Editions, drag your downloaded ebook onto the ereader device name
  5. Disconnect the ereader and start reading
